Is there such a thing as a stupid question?
Hello Fellow Strategist,
Regulatory change is often greeted with a sigh—costs, complexity, compliance, more audits. But what if compliance isn’t just a burden, but a powerful lever for growth?
This Thursday at #stratChat we will be looking at:
What are some examples of organisations who've turned the burden of compliance into a strategic opportunity?
What are some technique for approaching new regulations which can help us to find such opportunities?
Here are some examples to get you thinking:
ING and stress‑testing in banking When regulators increased requirements for stress testing and capital buffers, ING didn’t just beef up risk compliance. They developed scenario‑planning tools, engaged customers on the bank’s resilience, and used the strengthened trust in their financial stability as part of their brand messaging—making it easier to attract deposits and reassure investors.
Unilever and environmental / sustainability regulation As environmental laws tightened (e.g. plastic use, emissions), Unilever pushed ahead with ambitious sustainability commitments, re‑designed packaging, and transparent reporting. In doing so, they didn’t just avoid penalties—they won over consumers who prefer sustainable brands, drove efficiencies through reduced waste, and gained shareholder goodwill.
